Our overarching social responsibility objectives are to encourage a positive impact, through our activities, on the environment, consumers, employees, communities and stakeholders.
It is our continuing commitment to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life for our workforce and their families, as well as, of the local community and society as a whole.
CSR is more than an acronym, it's the way we do business. Over the years, Ken-Next has given to the local community through informal grants and donations, seed capital and philanthropy. However, as part of our commitment to building the future, we have adopted a robust strategy that ensures our commitment to sustainability in the most efficient, effective and beneficial as it can be.
Our giving has matured over the years through to focus fully on corporate philanthropy, value creation and sustainability. It is on these bases that we carefully select our projects and our partners.
As a leader in the oil and gas industry, we're committed to stewardship of the environment. Our concern extends to safeguarding and developing our employees and other human capital, as well as building and supporting the communities who rely on us.
Our staff are our most valuable assets as such, ensuring staff welfare at Ken-Next is paramount. As a company we invest in the following
- Employee Health and Well Being
- Training and Development
- Cutting Edge Health and Safety (training and equipment)
- Staff Voluntary Pursuits
Just as we aim to support our employees by giving them the tools they need and by maintaining a course of expansion that unlocks new career opportunities to which they can turn their expertise, we also embark on collaborations with the communities in which we operate, bringing economic prosperity and, naturally, improving downstream oil and gas infrastructure as a necessary component in our drive towards increased market penetration.
At Ken-Next it's not just what we do that matters – it's how we get the job done. Delivering safe and reliable energy in a socially responsible manner makes good business sense. it's how we earn our social licence to operate and grow our business.
Our stakeholders have diverse issues, interests and backgrounds, and we strive to deal with them fairly and openly. We consult in various ways, including community forums, welcome feedback, track public complaints and follow up in a timely manner.
When Ken-Next operates on or near traditional lands of the Niger Delta people, considering that we are part of them, we seek their input and share economic benefits through employment opportunities, targeted training programmes and by supporting local businesses. We also provide training to our employees and contractors, who are largely of African heritage, in how to responsibly deal with host communities
Investing in Communities
Ken-Next is committed to giving back to the communities where we operate. We do so through our corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy, based on three elements:
Giving – Ken-Next makes donations annually to churches, registered charities and not-for-profit charitable organizations. We also become involved in various social investment projects. Our core funding areas are in: education; creating political awareness and improving governance; arts and culture; and community development.
Educating – Ken-Next is committed to promoting the study of engineering in the communities within which we operate. We are committed to providing scholarships annually for higher-level education.
By supporting our local communities, we believe we are able to empower individuals to become more fully involved in civic duties, business roles and government; engage in personal development through an interest in the arts, charity and welfare; and encourage others to excel in their careers, or to pursue educational opportunities they may previously have missed.
The Ken-Next environmental compliance team manages risks appropriately to ensure that we do the best we can as a business. A greener work place is our consistent goal and we meet this by the following:
ICT
Our staff have devised initiatives which help keep our work flows digital reducing the amount of paper, waste and fuel we use annually. Through utilizing the best options in technology and investing in more efficient work systems, we are able to streamline our production of office and site waste.
We are in the process of instituting a 'give back drive' where all our ICT equipment once replaced are refurbished and donated to local education charities.
Over the coming years, we will be investing in research into the measurement of our impact on the environment. This new initiative will measure our waste production, paper, water and energy consumption over the coming year. Recommendations from this environmental impact analysis will be the blue print from which we will draw our policies for the coming decades.
WE TAKE HEALTH AND SAFETY SERIOUSLY
Ken-Next facilities are clean and hazard-free, and employ the best safety management practices. As a sign of our commitment to safety we own several high-tech fire trucks to respond immediately in the event of a fire.
We are responsible stewards of the Earth. Accordingly, we educate and train all employees, contractors and visitors to comply with our HSE standards in order to protect the environment and their own health.
